Sign language for babies and toddlers

The first year of the life of a baby is characterized by rapid development in his motoric capabilities.  On the other hand, language is more complicated, and babies can only talk between the ages of 2 and 3 or later.  The organs of the body, which are involved in speech (teeth, face muscles, mouth muscles) develop later than those involved in coordination.  Sign language enables an earlier form of communication with babies by using signs, long before the baby can talk.    At this age the baby already knows how to express his needs and likes, but he can only speak several months later.  Using signs the baby can express if he is happy, if he hurts, if he wants to sleep or anything he may want from his mother.  It has been proved that the sign language advances speaking skills and strengthens long term processes.  Babies who used the sign language  could read quicker, could recognize nuances in speech.

The system is:

On the spot.  There is no need for outside aids.  Every book or music disc and
    provide the stimulus to practice.
Easy to learn:  It does not demand full knowledge of sign language but only a few of
the signs of language, extra signs can be introduced slowly according to the wish
of the adult, and the interest of both parties.
Does not need any special time frame:  The method can be practiced any time,
    throughout the day.

The project enables:

A deeper relationship between the babies in the DCC’s and their carers.
Better communication between the parents and their children during the pre-talking
    stage.
Better cooperation between parents and staff.
A unique pedagogic activity in the Day Care Centers.
