Volunteer at a WIZO Project

 

My name is Dina. To be exact, my name is Genevieve, but Dina is the first name that I used for two months in Jerusalem.
I volunteered at the WIZO Rebecca Sieff Centre For The Family in Jerusalem in May and June of 2011. During my stay, I took care of children in the nursery at the centre two days a week and I perfected my Hebrew at Ulpan Morasha. Those two months allowed me to better understand WIZO, life in Israel and Jerusalem.

Twice a week for four months in early 2011, I rode the bus from my life in Tel Aviv to a WIZO after-school center in Bnei Brak. Bnei Brak is a highly religious suburb of Tel Aviv that is also home to a large Ethiopian Jewish community, and the WIZO after-school center serves Ethiopian Jewish children almost exclusively. Read more...
